Macro, who holds the Pacifist Paladin speedrun record in Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction on Normal at 2h 25m 45, thought that switching to Resurrection might make things easier for running this Hell difficulty. He also poured points into the Cold Armor passive skill, which boosts defense (wizards don’t have that many hitpoints) and deals cold damage to enemies who kill them. By the end, he had a set of armor that required him to cast the powerful field-of-effect Nova spell every time an enemy hit. To accomplish this, Macro loads his sorceress with “chance to cast” items and abilities, which sometimes cause a spell when his character is hit. For the most part, the damage you do should be dealt as a direct result of a creature attacking you. You also can’t force anything else to attack, set a trap, or use a damaging aura. Of course, you can’t attack, but there’s more to it than that. The Diablo 2 movement community has created an elaborate set of rules that define what a pacifist race is. He told PC Gamer, “The only people who’ve ever taken a run normally were to twitch a character with edited gear to see if that was possible.” (“Twinking,” in Diablo 2 parlance, means using a trading system to deliver a character item.) Diablo 2 Speedrunners came up with theoretical ways to complete the run, but Macro did it realistically. It took over 50 hours, but MacroBioBoi (opens in new tab) finally did it: they completed “the world’s first completely unrecorded solo self-found Hell pacifist sorceress run” in Diablo 2.įor those who aren’t a Diablo 2 speedrunner, Macro beats Diablo 2: Resurrected on the hardest difficulty without attacking anything, using only items he found during the race.
